Connecting the Generations
Easy Tech Solutions to Bring Families Closer
THE BIG BYTE
Founded by the United Nations (UN) in 1994, the International Day of Families is observed every May 15 to honor the importance of families. Families—both traditional and non-traditional—are the foundation of society. Our most formative years are spent with our families and those people are likely the most important people in our lives, so they should be celebrated.
Hey RevTech family! This newsletter we're celebrating International Family Day. 🎉
Families are the backbone of our communities, and today, we honor their importance. At RevTech, we're all about connecting families through technology.
One of my favorite ways to stay connected with my family, who live several states away, is by using my Amazon Echo. With a simple voice command, we can make video calls and see each other anytime.
“Alexa, drop in on Saeed’s House.” Just like that, we're connected, she can see me and I can see her, and it feels like we're in the same room, even though we're miles apart. And if there’s ever an emergency, everything is hand’s free and she can still call out for support.
So, whether it's helping kids learn with educational apps, keeping our homes smart and secure, or staying connected with loved ones through video calls, tech can bring families closer.
And it doesn't stop there. For faith-based organizations and nonprofits, tech can be a game-changer in bringing families together and serving the community.
From live-streaming church services to organizing community events, tech helps us stay connected and engaged, no matter where we are.
So, on this International Family Day, let's celebrate the power of technology in keeping our families strong and united.
Here are a few more ideas for connecting families through tech:
1. Smart Speakers and Voice Assistants: Equip family members with devices like the Amazon Echo or Google Nest. Set them up to make hands-free calls or "drop in" for instant conversations, enhancing connectivity and safety. This setup allows for easy communication, especially for those who may have difficulty using traditional phones. |
3. Virtual Game Nights: Use online platforms like Jackbox Games or Tabletopia to host virtual game nights. (Or even take a hint from my family and play Monopoly on your iPhones together!) These games are easy to set up and play, fostering fun and interaction across all ages. It’s a great way to bring everyone together for some quality family time, even when apart.
4. Shared Online Calendars: | 5. Photo Sharing Services: Set up a family album on services like Google Photos or Apple iCloud. These platforms allow for automatic photo sharing and organization, making it easy for all family members to stay updated with each other’s lives. This ensures that everyone can enjoy and reminisce about family moments together, no matter the distance. |
